Crystal Empire

The Final Turning

the crystal empire

Demara, Daughter of Blossoms, Bearer of the White Crystal, the Outsider, the Wallbreaker sat in silence, contemplating the end of the world.

Five years ago, a plan was set in motion that nearly cost Demara everything. She’s journeyed across both halves the world, and its all come down to this. Three months before it all ends. That’s all the time she has left to change the fate of the world. But all the Empire wants to know is whether she will be their savior, or their destruction.

Monthly Update: August 2025

Imperial Heart is over 90% to its wordcount goal! The final sequence is going to take us above the projected word count, but that’s what editing is for. I’m really excited about how this book is shaping up, but I think I’ll be taking a break from Crystal Empire for a little bit this Fall. I have a few small projects I’ve wanted to work on and that time will be great to do it.

Magical Girl Demara | A Crystal Empire Story

the crystal empire

Magical Girl Demara takes place in an alternative, non-canon universe remixing elements of the Crystal Empire series. It contains some characters that may be unfamiliar to those who have not read Book 2, Imperial Heart.

Demara walked, not ran, down the middle of the echoing hallways of Imperial Heights Academy, stepping as softly as she could on the cold linoleum floor and hoping nobody asked her for her hall pass. If they did, the dutiful teachers would have no choice but to send her back to Mister Rhens’ classroom after writing her up. None of them could afford that kind of delay, especially not after the school went into lockdown when they heard the alert over the radio. Then she’d be stuck and the police would have to stop the monster rampaging through Manhira without the help of Crystal Warrior Amethyst.

2025 July Update

Another month come and gone. July moved quickly, unlike Imperial Heart, which is now at 80% complete on its first draft. The book is really shaping up. I think its some of my best work yet. While I’m behind my goals, it’s definitely rounding the final stretch!

Most of the month was spent on travel. July is a great month to get out of Florida and visit family up north. The kids had a blast. We haven’t gotten many places this year, its hard with little kids, but we’re excited to do more now that number two is walking.

Monthly Update: June 2025

Progress on Crystal Empire has been slow and not very steady. Work’s been a bit of a mad dash lately, and it’s been harder to get back into this crystalline state of mind. We did hit 73% of the projected word count with about 10 chapters left in the outline. I have a feeling Imperial Heart is going to come in a bit above its planned 100,000 words.

We’re also making some progress on the Constellara Project’s first anthology. I’m excited to be lauching a few sample stories on the website. We’ve created a Patreon for anyone interested in sponsoring the project!

The Shadow | A Crystal Empire Story

And before you ask ‘why’, it’s because you have kept us weak Danen. Starved us. If you won’t take care of us, I must.

Set hundreds of years before the events of The Crystal Empire, witness a dark truth buried under a millenium of secrets.

Danen opened his eyes to a splitting pain in his head and blinked blearily through tears in the bright morning sun. That was a bad sign for how his day was going to go. Rolling himself up out of the puddle of sewage and rainwater he’d made laying his tired, emaciated bones down to rest last night, he realized he recognized the alley, and even remembered choosing it last night because he could stop at Rose’s for a drink when he woke. Silver linings there.

Mal, exile, wanderer sage, godkiller, was being strapped inside a canvas body bag in the back of a stolen ambulance, his life pouring from his lips while he held the last words of a dead man in his hands.

Five years ago, Malcon the Warrior was betrayed, blamed for the God Emperor’s death, and forced to flee into exile beyond the Empire’s great crystalline Wall and the protection it offers from the yearly Turnings which wreck the world outside. Now, with the help of unexpected allies from beyond the Wall, Mal has returned to put an end to the heinous scheme that seeks to sieze power from the God Emperors and corrupt the very purpose of the Empire.

The Exile

Banished and betrayed by his homeland, the Exile searches for redemption in the wreckage of a world he failed to save.

The Exile was first published in December 2024. This story is set in the world of Crystal Empire.

Turquoise, Reign of the Second 994th God Emperor

The gentle rocking of the little wooden rowboat in the lake along with the soft splashing of oars in the water that evening was almost relaxing. It had been two months since escaping the Labyrinth, and tonight was normally the night of the Turning. Nobody was quite sure what to expect this evening, and Mal was just as ignorant as everyone else on this side of the Wall. He rested in between the boat’s first two benches, back against the hull, watching the stars and listening to the lapping of the water. Once, he would have gleefully dozed off in a boat like this, but sleep did not come easy lately.

The Crystal Empire Preview: Chapter 1

the crystal empire

For your reading pleasure is an early look into an early chapter of The Crystal Empire, my upcoming epic fantasy project. It is a rought draft, and things will likely change between this and the published version.

This chapter is the first from the perspective of our heroine, Demara, and serves as an introduction to world beyond the Wall, a wild edge of the world known as the Fringe.

The Crystal Empire Preview: Prologue

the crystal empire

For your reading pleasure is an early look into an early chapter of The Crystal Empire, my upcoming epic fantasy project. It is a rought draft, and things will likely change between this and the published version.

This chapter server as the prologue, and centers around Tulian, God Emperor of all creation as he dies before he is supposed to.

Tulian

Tulian, the nine hundred and ninety fourth Emperor, Lord and God of Creation, Father of All, Whose Will Was Supreme, was dying. He knew that his death was imminent when his year was up, as it was for all the men and women who became God before him. The human body could only contain infinite cosmic power for so long before being burned away. What Tulian felt though was something much more mundane than the all-consuming burning that previous gods had described as they had passed on their mantle. No, this felt to him like poison, sapping his warmth away and thickening his blood as it pumped through his veins.

To Chase Light

“I cried the first time I saw it too,” Mal said. “Though, I was standing on the other side. Where I am from, the Empire, we shut all this away, guard against it. I thought then that was our great sin, but now, after today? We are wrong about so many things. I was nearly twenty the first time I ventured out beyond the Wall, beyond the planned order of everything, and even then my eyes were only half open to what there was to see out here.”
